Right away, I want to say we’re sending you this announcement because we’ve worked with you in the past, and very much want to continue in the future. If you’d like to continue hearing from us (fairly rarely) feel free to stay on, and if you would rather not, we won’t take it personally and look forward to your next visit in person. Thank you for being part of our community!
For more than 32 years, Computers for Schools Plus (CFS+) has helped bridge Canada’s digital divide by refurbishing and redistributing technology to schools and under-served communities across the country.
Today, the communities we serve extend far beyond schools alone. Non-profit organizations, low-income Canadians, newcomers, students, youth, Indigenous communities, and other under-served populations increasingly rely on access to affordable, reliable technology to participate fully in education, employment, and civic life.
To better reflect this broader impact and the people we serve, we are happy to announce that CFS+ is evolving its name to Computers for Success Canada.
If you’ve spoken to Ben and I about the organization name before, you’ll know this change is long overdue for us.
A significant catalyst for this change is that our funding from Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada (ISED) concluded on March 31, 2026. In response, we’ve brought the program under Raven’s wing (*snicker*), which allows us to continue building on the work already in place while also creating new opportunities to reach and support more Yukoners moving forward.
With this shift, we’re also taking the opportunity to rebrand and align more closely with Raven ReCentre, which has long supported and administered the program. As part of this evolution, we are restructuring our operations under the Raven ReTek banner.
The continued and broadened mission of Raven ReTek:
- Supporting NGOs and community organizations
- Enabling low-income Canadians to access digital tools
- Assisting immigrants and newcomers in workforce integration
- Providing students and youth with devices, training, and paid work experience
- Advancing digital access in Indigenous and rural communities
- Providing refurbished computers to any Yukoner who values reuse, or who doesn’t have room in the budget for brand new computers.
We will still respect Federal guidelines for how to operate the program as it pertains to Federal government resources, but for a long time we’ve been frustrated by not being free to offer our locally sourced computers to anyone who values reuse or feels financially constricted. This way we can still work with our national network of CFSC shops across Canada, but we will be even more specialized to help our fellow Yukoners with this partition between the Federal and local resources we obtain.
We are exceedingly thankful for our partnership with the Yukon Government. They’re continuing to generously provide us with warehouse space, and also allow us first right of refusal on their assets for us to refurbish and provide to Yukoners who need them. This continued support and partnership are central to keeping these devices in the Yukon, and in the hands of local communities.
Raven remains a trusted and proven partner. Our infrastructure, certified wiping and refurbishment technology, and established operational protocols are fully in place and functioning. This ensures we can maintain the same high standard of data security, compliance, and service delivery that our partners have relied on for years.
Looking Ahead with Confidence
Our national team is actively securing diversified funding through federal and territorial partnerships, corporate collaborations, philanthropic organizations, and social impact initiatives. Our national network remains operational in every region of Canada, and with Raven ReTek we are casting a wider net locally.
Our message to donors, partners, and clients is that Raven ReTek and Computers for Success will continue delivering devices, training, and opportunity across Canada.
The demand for affordable technology and internet access, youth skills development, and circular economy solutions continues to grow. With strong allies, partnerships and a proven national model, we are confident in our ability to sustain and even expand this vital work and keep the north and its residents connected.
We invite partners and supporters to join us in shaping the next 30 years of digital opportunity in Canada.
With many thanks for your continued support,
Shannon Powell, Executive Director of Raven ReCentre
Ben Teertstra, Warehouse Manager of Raven ReTek
Ean McDonald, Office Manager of Raven ReTek
